- Dr. Chloe Arson receives the 2017 GT CEE Interdisciplinary Research Award.
- Dr. Sheng Dai receives the 2017 GT CEE Bill Schutz Junior Faculty Teaching Award.
- For the second time in three years, Susan Burns has received Georgia Tech’s 2017 Teaching
Effectiveness Award. The prize goes to faculty members whose students rate them at least 4.9 out
of 5 on course surveys. Only 40 instructors across campus win the award.
- In October 2017, Paul Mayne delivered the 34th Manuel Roche Lecture to the Portuguese
Geotechnical Society at the Fundação Calouste Gulbenkian Museum in Lisbon. click here for the

- Dr. David Frost was selected as the 2017 Elizabeth and Bill Higginbotham Professor. Higginbotham,
a 1976 graduate of the civil engineering program, created the professorship earlier this year. The title
carries significant prestige in academic circles and gives Frost additional funding to support his work.
- Upon special invitation, Dr. Paul W. Mayne delivered the 14th Nonveiller Lecture entitled:
“GeoCharacterization by Seismic Piezocone in 2016 and Beyond” to the Croatian Geotechnical
Society at the University of Zagreb on 05 October 2016. He and his wife Karen also had a chance to
sample tasty local foods and wines, as well as visit the famed walled city of Dubrovnik on the Adriatic
Sea where the HBO series “Game of Thrones” is filmed.

- Dr. J. David Frost - 2003 Hogentogler Award - Presented at the
annual meeting of the American Society for Testing & Materials (ASTM),
Denver June 2003 for his development with Dr. Jason DeJong on the
multi-friction sleeve penetrometer for investigating soil-pile interface
roughness.
- Dr. Paul W. Mayne - 2003 Innovation Award - Given by the School of
Civil & Environmental Engineering, College of Engineering, Georgia
Institute of Technology in recognition of the development of an
electro-auto seismic source for field geophysics testing with Mr. Thomas
Casey (MS 2000).

at the University Level to outstanding & exceptional faculty and named
